Background and context

The School of Business and Economics is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in business administration, Accounting and Finance. It is a vibrant and productive school. The successful candidate will have proven teaching ability and will deliver high-quality teaching to students.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are well-placed in teaching business administration, accounting, and finance, among other relevant courses to be determined.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and learning support

  • Plan, design/develop and deliver teaching material across a range of modules or within a subject area using appropriate teaching tools, learning support and assessment methods.
  • Supervise and monitor students’ works/projects and where appropriate, placements.
  • Identify areas where the current provision requires revision or improvement.
  • Contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and course materials
  • Set marks and examinations, assess student works, provide feedback to students, record and report the development, progress, and attainments according to the Institute’s assessment policies and in line with the principles of assessment for learning.
  • Lead the development and clarification of academic standards for the subject area.
  • Make use of modern technology to enhance teaching, learning and research.
  • Ensure that tutors or teaching assistants and other staff, including visiting lecturers/speakers, are used effectively to enhance learning.
  • Ensure that the development of programmes is within the institution’s overall framework, for example, the validation and revalidation of courses and assessment.
  • Encourage the development of diversity and effective approaches to courserdeliveryeandaensureuthathteachingideliveryeachievesvtheteducationalnstandardsrof the department.

Research and scholarship

  • Lead the development and implementation of teaching and learning strategies at the school and/or corporate level.
  • Undertake evaluation research into learning and teaching methodologies and disseminate best practices within and outside the institution.
  • Develop and promote the use of diverse and effective assessment methods.
  • Work with the relevant research leaders in the relevant field groups to develop and coordinate the research activity in the department and contribute to the development of research strategy at either the school and/or corporate level.
  • Participate in research and collaborative partnerships with other educational institutions or other bodies.
  • Lead bids for research, consultancy, and other additional funds.
  • Make presentations at national and international conferences and similar events.
  • Develop research objectives, projects and proposals.
  • Write or contribute to publications or disseminate research findings using other appropriate journals and media.
  • Make presentations at conferences or exhibit work at other appropriate events.

Liaison and networking

  • Chair committees and participate in Institutional decision making and governance at either the school and/or corporate level.
  • Lead and develop internal and external networks to foster collaboration, share information and ideas, and promote the subject and institution.
  • Promote and market the department’s work in the relevant fields, both nationally and internationally.

Key selection criteria

Education and Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree or PhD qualification in an area of academic relevance to the work of the department.

Skills and Abilities relating to the role

  • Ability to oversee the design and development of the overall curricula.
  • To plan, prepare, develop and evaluate courses and course materials, and where appropriate, supervise the course provision.
  • Ability to review programme design regularly to ensure compliance with quality standards and academic regulations and to make alterations where appropriate.
  • Ability to exercise academic leadership for all subject areas of teaching and the contribution of research to that teaching.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning and teaching methodologies, assessment methods, course delivery and effect improvement where appropriate.
  • Ability to take responsibility at either school or corporate level, including key areas such as chairing and participating in school and Institutional committees, institutional decision-making, and governance.

Experience

  • Experience in leading the development of academic strategy’s curricula, for example, teaching and learning, research.
  • A teaching qualification
